Oxborough lakes near Thetford are due to open on Saturday 5th May and offer both specimen and general fishing over two lakes. The 4 acre specimen lake has carp from 10lb to 20lb and the 1 acre ‘small’ lake has fish from 1lb to 7lb. The venue was stocked over the winter period and the specimen water is host to some of the well known Mockbeggar carp, and with none of the fish having been caught before many anglers will be keen to get their first glimpse of these fish. There are only 15 pegs on the specimen water and 16 on the pleasure lake, so everyone fishing has ample room. Our aim here is to provide a real specimen water with quality fish that will reach seriously large sizes in time along with a pleasure lake which is ideal for anglers of all abilities.

Shrewley Pool near Hasely continues to be a popular spot for both match and pleasure anglers. This 4 acre lake is one of the most consistent venues in Warwick with fish up to 18lb. Returning angler Phil Scott from Alcester landed over 70lb of hard fighting carp on sweetcorn from peg 14 fishing at 8mtrs, but his son Gregg, 12yrs, caught the biggest fish of the session at 14lb! The RJM club match was topped by Steve Roper fishing peg 25 using a combination of corn and paste to take 67lb 3oz of carp averaging 3lb to push Harry Gorman into second with his 61lb catch.

Creeting Lakes near Stowmarket has been in spectacular form with all three lakes providing exciting sport. The Top lake has seen match catches averaging 35lb per angler with the JHS match topped by Peter Horne from peg 16 with 63lb 4oz. Peter Ambrose travelled from Felixstowe to tackle the Bottom lake on a pleasure session and landed over 30 fish between 4lb and 8lb on sweetcorn. The Big Fish lake is in fine form following the winter stocking and Ipswich angler John Mills topped his 8 fish catch with a 23lbcarp.

Halesworth Lakes is providing top rate fishing and all three lakes have seen some excellent action. Wills AC fished the match lake and Frank Horner secured top spot from Martin Rounds taking 73lb 4oz and 64lb 7oz respectively. Local angler Simon Ambrose landed 12 carp between 7lb and 14lb from the Middle lake on a corn and boilie combination. Largest fish of the week was a 19lb 2oz specimen taken on pellet by 14 yr old Woodbridge angler Liam Thomas whilst on half term.

Yaxley Lake near Diss provided the setting for the ‘Old Boys’ match and Tony Barry landed 58lb 6oz of the newly stocked carp ahead of Richard Kean who weighed 51lb 9oz. Surface feeding carp to 15lb were taken by Diss angler Gordon Harvey on crust who landed a further ten fish over 10lb. Margin and surface fishing best when the temperatures increase.

Kilburn lake is a busy place with fish feeding in the reeded margins all round the lake. The Greens AC match was won from peg 15 with Ken Beech hauling in 54lb 10oz, followed by Scott Irwin with 49lb 5oz, both fishing corn and pellet. Pleasure catches in the warmer weather are approaching 100lb and Derby regular Gary Cockburn landed 28 carp for a similar weight from peg 25.

Nether Stowey lake is providing mixed catches of fish, and local angler Tom Howard enjoyed catching roach to 1lb along with carp to 7lb in a near 70lb haul. 12 yr old Josh Cresswell from Bridgwater fished out 12 carp to 6lb on his first ever trip on maggot and corn.

Dodford lake near Chippenham has enjoyed a good start to spring fishing with match weights to 50lb and pleasure catches of fish from 4lb to 17lb from all areas of the 40 peg lake. Swindon angler Paul Brown pleasure fished his way to a 40 fish catch of carp around the 3lb size whilst practicing for his next competition at the venue.
